Hartford Fire Department Lt. Roman Carter, 31, was stabbed multiple times at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, May, 2, outside an apartment complex on Park Street, police said. The off-duty firefighter was found by officers on the street who had to perform emergency CPR to keep him alive.
The investigation into the nearly fatal stabbing led to the arrest of Joshua Carter, 27, the fire lieutenant’s younger brother, who reportedly admitted to stabbing his brother once with a knife.
According to reports, the attack was rooted in a dispute over a car the younger brother borrowed from Carter’s girlfriend. The lieutenant survived the stabbing and is currently recovering.
The younger Carter was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. His bail was initially set at $850,000, though it was reduced to $200,000. He is currently remanded at the Hartford Correctional Center. No return court date has been announced.
